Okay here I go!....... I hope I don't get sued but I'm about to share information with you and obviously I'm naming names.
Look, in the world of insurance, it is like splitting atoms, the complicated formulas and mathematical tables that they send to you are enough to send any reasonable person's head spinning and smoking.....
It's meant to overwhelm you.....Its designed for the sheepel of this world...Come on IPhone apps have many complicated technical task as easy as putting bread in a toaster.
You tell me..Your smart enough to be reading this blog and arming yourself with some real knowledge. Connect the dots.
Okay look I'm in the roofing industry and each and every one of these insurance carriers have a different way of labeling things confusing enough for someone that does this 80 hours a week.
And the DIRTY truth is the FAT cat insurance companies they know that you don't know anything about what they can do to you.....
Okay so what does it mean to be pitch slapped?
The truth is this what you don't know about your insurance claim is going to hurt you.
In the insurance World there something called a steep charge. Steep charges are applied to roofs that have a higher than normal pitch. I don't want to get into all the boring details of it. Because you can go to Google and read up everything you need to read about. The point of this blog is to expose you to the idea that there's probably information that you haven't even considered or consumed yet.
Here's what you need to know.
Recently a client of mine came to me that had State Farm as their insurance carrier. This particular insurance carrier has in my opinion had a somewhat checkered past. In this particular case this client of mine had a very incomplete insurance quote from the adjuster that came out to look at the house. Missing several things....Another story for another day. Consume and digest this first.
Why is important to have the right pitch documented?
The very important truth of making sure that your roof has been documented as to having the correct pitch means the difference in potentially several hundreds or even thousands of dollars that end up being applied towards your roof not just in labor but in materials as well. Roofing crews demand a premium for higher pitched roofs. Time, effort and energy all add up....
Okay so here's the real dirty truth of why it's very important that you make sure that you didn't just get pitch slapped.
If you have a roof that is something you would consider walk-able, meaning you could get up there and walk around on it very easily. It's probably not an issue.
However if you have a roof that has a pitch that would somewhat scared the s*** out of you to be on you need to make sure that you have been paid the right amount of money.
If you're not paid the right amount of money and your roofer comes to put that roof on, best case scenario you're talking about a longer delay in getting your roof put on.
And here's a scary thing this is probably only the tip of the iceberg. And what do they say about icebergs? You can only see 10% of the iceberg 90% is below the waterline.
Okay I get it maybe you're new to this whole buying a roof thing.
Maybe you're someone that's out there trying to figure it out and make sense of it all. Check this out..... it's an application you can download to your smartphone called pitch gauge.
You literally Point your smart phone at the house and it will tell you exactly what the pitch of your home it is. Once you've done this go back and look specifically at your insurance paperwork.....
Ripple effect is this, if you do not have the right pitch you will not have the right amount of material to cover your roof.
When it comes to understanding why things like this happen it's because under experienced adjusters go out in a rush and don't take the proper time. In this particular case my client had State Farm as their insurance carrier.
Now I again want to say I have had experiences with State Farm that have been checkered. Good ones and of course bad ones. I know insurance companies like State Farm can't be the great guy every single day some people do try and take advantage of them....BUT for the other 99% of us COME ON!
Remember Friends at the end of the day this is a business. Insurance companies are some of the wealthiest companies in the world! I'm not advocating taking advantage of them because they make a lot of money.
We need insurance companies. However I am advocating excellence in customer service and taking care of customers in the way that they should be as they are insured.
If you have experienced some of these same problems with your insurance company, reach out to me personally and I will be happy to look at your paperwork and work through any issues that I can for you.
